I do not think that any Studebaker Avanti seats are comfortable. Many that are familiar with them feel that the later, thick seat backs are even more uncomfortable than the earlier ones. Maybe one of the owners had the seats exchanged in an attempt at more comfort or maybe a seat got damaged and was replaced by earlier seats. I have seen seats replaced under warrantee. .

Avanti seats were/are definitely not comfort masters by any measure. No lumbar support and no recline adjustment.
A Lark bench seat was easier on the derrière...

I guess Avanti seat comfort is a matter of how well they fit the occupant (or how fat their butts are). I put over 9,000 highway miles in 2 years on R5420 (thick seats) and both the wife and I found the thick seats acceptably comfortable. My '63 was a killer in 90 miles. However, I agree that Lark seats (and Hawk buckets) are more comfortable. Paul Johnson
Yes, my old '63 Avanti seats were back killers. I only made a few long trips with that car including the '74 Milestone in Carlisle, Pa. The others were a trip to South Bend, Rockport, Maine and New Jersey.
Seats have come a long way in cars...
