I went through my file box from SB2002 to see what I might bring along this year. Maps, my home-made NG ID badge, WVPE schedule (Hi, Bob) and so on were easy.

But here's two things to bring up for newcomers and the oldies:

The Cord-Auburn-Duesenberg museum in Auburn, right up against the Ohio border, a bit north of Ft Wayne. is in the Cord factory building and it's considered one of the best single firm museums - probably because it's showroom is like it was in the 1930s, and you can even wander through the engineering dept and into Mr Cord's office! I've never heard anyone say they didn't like it. And I was kicking myself for all the times I drove so close to it coming from Boston to SB.

#2 is the Art Museum, in the Century Center, IIFC. The show was nice in 2002 and a cool break from the swap-meet heat.

I agree, great museum. I was there a couple of years ago, and was impressed to find that they even had my Sky Magazine article on the Imperial Palace Duesenbergs in their library collection!

One minor point: you can LOOK into E. L. Cord's office, but you can't wander through.

The ACD museum is a good one... if you visit, be SURE to go to the NATMUS museum driectly behind the ACD. Personally, I like the NATMUS better. It is filled with real cars, some restored, some daily-driver like... all cars we grew up with.

It used to be that you could actually go INTO Cord's office and look around. The last time I was there though, it was roped off and you could only look in from the doorway.

Also, the Auburn-Cord-Duesenburg Museum has been bitten by the 'bigger is better' bug and they have added to its size in the last few years.... What used to be a courtyard between the two east-west wings of the bullding is now filled in with a reception room and more room for cars. It is OK but, when you step thru the doorway into the new area, ALL the nostalgia of the original building has been sacrificed to a high-dollar addition that, in my opinion, detracts from the visit.

Dean Kruse also has opened the Victory museum about 5 minutes away. I've not been thru that one yet but is supposedly a war museum of ACD quality.
