Is this a bogus Speedster?

How can you be so sure that the 4 barrel was not replaced ? It's a

Fair enough, but I agree I would like to see a build sheet. Yes a lot could have been replaced. I have a '54 Commander shell with engine and a few parts that I got from a guy and the reason he had it was just for the body tag to use on his '53 Champion to make it a '54 Commander.

Some of the items "missing" from this car make for improvement!

Maybe some previous owner simply had good taste?

And, hopefully, kept some the offensive, ugly trim items (fender spears, fog/back-up lights, hood ornament,) in case some future owner wanted to make it, "correct."

Also seems to have the later short steering column and dished wheel.

For what its worth the serial number for this car should be 7166602 in order to match the body # 6H K7 1547 (assembled 5-11-55). The original paint color was the white/black/white combination. It was shipped to the dealer in Denver, Colorado and was tagged for Mrs. Bartz. It would have power windows and the 8.0 high compression head and automatic. Does someone wish to contact the seller to see if the serial number matches the body number? My guess is that it will not.

My guess is that 7166602 is no more, but some of its bits and pieces survive on this car, including its body tag.

The seller responded to my request for the VIN# and here it is:

The VIN is 7166606, as found on car and the title.

Isn't it a bit strange for that VIN number to be 4 off from what Richard Quinn says it should be?

Richard emailed me that he had made a mistake and the number the owner gave is correct for that body tag. So who knows what the deal is?

After all this research, it apparently is the 'real thing'. I hope it now goes to a good home and gets restored with the correct Speedster interior as we all know how rare they are. One can count on a new engine-turned dash panel since the the one currently in it appears to be butchered with the extra switch and who knows how much it's been chopped under that humongeous escutcheon for the non-Stude radio.

I for one have to say that I don't care, I'd proudly drive that car, even without the (ugly) fog lights, correct interior or steering column, fender spears, etc. etc. etc. Of course all that stuff does hurt the resale value of the car so for a driver this might be a bargain for someone. Looks like the seller is getting beat up in the Q&A session as well, poor guy. Sounds like he kind-of knows what he has and everyone's busting his balls about it.
