'04 Forester XT security system "on" light?

This may seem a bit silly, but every car I've had with a security system has a blinking light somewhere, usually quite visible from outside, when the car's locked, to indicate the system is armed. However, so far I haven't detected such a light on my XT. The manual has an illustration consisting of a rectangle with a small circle in the middle, apparently to illustrate such a light (not sure), but I can't figure out to what in my car that corresponds. My car is a Premium, factory-installed alarm system, so all the factory bells, whistles, and lights should be there. Any suggestions? Or, confirmation that there is/isn't a light?

Thanks.

On my '04 WRX, there is a red light directly under the tach that blinks on and off that says "Security"

My '04 WRX has the factory-installed premium security system and it has a small red light right under the tach that flashes every 2 seconds or so. It flashes the word "Security".

Yes, there's a light that flashes in the cluster, but it doesn't flash (and the security system isn't armed!) if the car is in 'Valet Mode'. Look in your manual about how to disable/enable Valet Mode and what its used for.

My '03 Forester came from the dealer in Valet Mode, maybe they do this so all the alarms don't go off during shipping or something.

Jason, and others who responded,

You're right! In the instrument cluster (right side). Yes, about every two seconds. What strikes me is that you have to be in just the right place at the right time to see it. So, to the extent such lights are also to serve as a deterent to a would-be crime-doer, it's not much good. Yes, there's a little sticker on one window stating "Equipped with a genuine Subaru security system," but that's not readable in poor light.

My previous car ('99 Acord) had a frequently-flashing red light right by the front door interior lock buttons. My '01 Volvo S60 has a light center dash top, right at the windshield base, very visible. I'd say Subaru needs a more obvious indicator.
