1993 Impreza woes - Seattle Eastside

I had the wife's 1993 Impreza serviced for its 120K scheduled maintance and the dealer diagnosed the following problems and the cost appears to be way more than the car is worth IMHO. We've had the car for 9 1/2 years and it's been mostly trouble free other than the normal schedule maintenence that we have done as needed.

I've already spent $1300 have new front brake calipers and pads and then all of the stuff for the 120K maint. including timing and V belts, and a water pump. On top of that I was shocked at the dealer's labor rates for the other following recommended repairs that we haven't had done yet:

1) Power Steering pump and rack leaking: $978.00 labor and $714.00 parts 2) Separator plate leaking: $553.00 labor $40.40 parts.

The other problem is the valve cover gaskets leakng but's that's not a real surprise and it the cheapest thing to have fixed. Also what the heck is a the separator plate?

We have a 93 Legacy L sedan and this Impreza sedan and now that the cars are

10 years old I'm wondering if there are other reputable shops in the Seattle Eastside area I could have repair work done at and not pay so much? I work in downtown Seattle and see a Greg's Japanese Auto but I've never taken our cars anywhere but the dealer and up until now it wasn't a costly prospect even through we know the dealer isn't cheap for repairs. We generally like our dealer and feel that they've always done a good job on our cars and we've never had any problems with any repairs they've made on either vehicle.

Thanks,

Tony
