1995 subaru legacy Wagon will not start- dash lights blink, solenoid clicks

1995 Subi Legacy-Outback Wagon.

Drove it on Friday night, no problem. Temps not terribly cold.

Got in this morning and keyless entry was dead, and thought battery in fob was spent.

Unlocked door manually. Interior lights went on, all seemed normal.

Insert key, depress clutch, and turn key.

All the dash lights starting blinking on and off, turn signals, etc. Solenoid can be heard clicking, but no crank. Remove key, and solenoid continues to click every three seconds for about 20 seconds before stopping. Interior lights work, but radio does not.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

thanks,

David

Your battery is DEAD. Either something was left on, or the battery has failed. How old is the battery????

Turn on the headlights - bet they glow instead of shine - and go out if you turn the key to start.

If the lights (including headlights) are working okay, then it's likely to be a dead starter-motor, but it could be:

- near-dead battery - dead solenoid - faulty ignition switch - broken cable - ...

If the car has an emobiliser, then the non-working key fob could be preventing the emobiliser from being turned off.
