Question for anyone who knows about the automatic transmission on this car. My previous Subaru was a manual and I knew it was a 50/50 split. I've read the auto is usually 90/10. However, I've also read that at lower speeds when the auto is in 1st or 2nd gears it's actually 50/50 and once you are moving faster (i.e. more highway speeds) it goes to

I have a 2001 Forester-S with the 4EAT and here is what I know. I am not sure about the 1st or 2nd gears at low speed is 50/50. But I do know:
1.If you accelerate from a standing stop it is at least 50/50, the TCU senses the car being accerlate from a stop and automatically sends more power to the rear wheels.2.If you accelerate either from stop or rolling while driving up the hill, power is transferred to the rear wheels.
In general the Auto-AWD is very dynamic. A lot more dynamic than most people think, ie Some people think it only transfers power when it slips, and this is not the case.

Jerry Subaru Legacy as well the OB 2.5i have a dynamic AWD. I just switch from a 1999 OB with 116,000 on it to a 2.5i OB 2005 and based on my experience, it does not matter if it is 50/50, 70/30, 90/10 or whatever because the AWD system is Dynamic and it changes as the circunstances, road conditions and vehicle dynamics dictates. So don't pay attention to the technicalities and enjoy the ride. I have done it in three OB 1999, 2000 (my wifes car) and 2005 (My new OB). Believe me it it very hard to part from such a versatile and safe car.
