'94 Legacy a/c problem

Hi everyone Starting last year my 94 legacy's a/c would not work properly sometime (when worked everything cool /cold ), now the compressor clutch will engage for about 2 second than disengage for about 25-30 second even when I'm drive on the hightway. sent to the dealer, dealer wants to change dryer/receiver, compressor and re-charge the refridgerant----$480.00. ofcause I did not have done because I think there is a bad connection somewhere. did anyone have the samilar problem and how did you fixed ? fuses, relays, refridgerant are all checked and OK.

That actually seems like a reasonable price.

The dealer would probably make just as high of a profit margin charging you straight labor with no parts to fix a "bad connection".

Very likely the system has a small leak and is now just low on refrigerant. System does have a pressure switch that shuts the compressor down when not enough refrigerant in the system. Just have the system topped off and see what happens.

It sounds like you're low on Freon and they may have determined it's leaking out of the compressor, or the compressor is otherwise weak or noisy. That $480 does sound too cheap though, even if they use a rebuilt compressor. I would seek a second opinion.
