My 95 Legacy wagon's fuel gauge isn't functioning. Usually it is on empty but sometimes it will register 1/4 to 1/2 tank. Since its not functioning, I fill up and calculate miles driven and know when to refill. To repair this would I need to replace the fuel tank? Is that where the sensor is located? Is there anything other than the fuel sensor that would cause this problem? Thanks, Bruce

AWD or FWD? AWD gas tank has a big hump in the middle for the driveshaft and has two fuel level sending units as the that you'd need to check with a multimeter. The easiest thing to do is remove the two access panels behind the rear seats and pull both units up to make sure the floats are working. There may also be a loose/rusted connection somewhere from the tank connector to the gauge. My bet there is a bad/rusted ground wire. Maybe check for that first before pulling the sending unit(s).
Oh yeah, if you do anything with the above, make sure you dont have a lit ciggy.
