Do people sell their subarus?

I have been looking for a used Forester for a month now, there's rarely more than 3 in a 50 mile radius of my zip code, and we're talking Phoenix, the

6th largest city in the US.

Do subaru owners not sell their cars? Do you drive them until they're dead? What's the deal? I have never owned a subaru.

Tom, There are plenty for sale in Colorado but they're dear. They sell more new ones here than anywhere. It may be worth the drive. People I know keep them for a long time. We've had a Forester for almost 4 years and it still runs and looks new. I had a bigger SUV but my friends in rural Colorado said, "after you've been driving that Subaru for a while, you'll dump that SUV hog," and they were right.

The Denver papers have their ads online as do many of the Colorado dealers. Is 700 miles too far? OK, have you tried dealers in Prescott and Flag? Closer the mountains you should find more.

I think the stats are something like 95% of all subaru's sold in the last 10 years are still on the road. Quality has value. ;)

I prefer to buy nice, used cars from the original owner. Subes like that were few and far between out here. I found a really nice, nearly new Forester XS for sale from a couple who bought an XT which came out a few months after they bought the XS.

If they bring the Forester STi to the US, I'd expect to see a few used XTs on the market too.

I don't know about others, but I'll sell mine when it's worn out and dies. Problem is, at 346k miles, it isn't there yet!

Around here pretty much the only 2nd hand Subarus are lease-returns from a dealership. I was looking for about four months before I lucked into a friend of a carpenter I'd hired was leaving the country and (reluctantly) selling his 95 wagon.

Agreed. Usually 3 possiblities, the return from lease, the person facing the 80k-90k service (pretty rare but I've seen a couple), and the clapped out 200k-300k mile car.

It's a real challenge to find out a good used subaru. I was looking for about 2 years when i finally found my Impreza 93 wagon. Really hard to find used car :)) but when you found one, you do the same as others : you don't sell it for about 10 years cuz it won't stop working :P

Kept my 1982 GL Wagon until the rust disabled it. At that point it had around 314,000 miles and engine was still purring along.

Replaced that with another 1982 GL Wagon and it currently has around 240,000 miles on it.

If I could find another nice 1982-83 GL Wagon I'd buy it. No timing belts to worry about. I'd include a 1984 in the list but that is the year they start doing emissions testing in the Peoples Republic of Taxachusetts.

As well as driving a Subaru I also ride a BMW (both are 1995 models).

BMW motorcycles can claim a similar percentage still on the road, but not "in the last ten years". Since 1923.

If you can wait 6 months, there could be an upswing in used Subs as folks trade up to the new 3rd generation Legacy/Outback, which is getting pretty fabulous reviews. At the least I'd expect the older new units on the lot to get attractive discounts.

maybe not many ppl own a subaru down in the pheonix area. I think if it wasnt for the snow, i would rather buy a V6 accord with the same amount of money
