Hi! My dealer told me that it void the warranty for my 99 Impreza TS. I guess it would be applied for you too. If you want more power wait 5 years or buy a STI version.

what happens with these k+m's (i have one on my wrx, fwiw) is that when servicing them the users put too much oil in the element. this oil can end up contaminating the MAF sensor, which is not exactly cheap to replace. if the MAF sensor goes down your car will run very badly, if at all. no permanent damage to internals (block, pistons, etc.) will result, however.

if you follow k+m's directions for servicing along with using their oil i seriously doubt you'll have a problem.

while the k+m's don't directly yield more power, they shine when it comes to performing while dirty... in a nutshell a k+m with X amount of dust in it will kick the ass of a paper pleated OEM filter with the same X amount of dust.

also, there's very few things that will "void the warranty" on your car--racing it, and taking it out of the country. personally, i say f.ck the dealer if he gives you crap about it. give them the first shot at a repair, and tell them flat out you're not going to take any bullshit about a damned air filter causing massive problems with your car. find a good local mechanic if you don't have one already.

Isn't the MAF sensor before the air filter?

naw, it's decidedly after it.

look for a portion of your intake which has a wire harness plugged into it. that's the MAF. they're delicate, so they should be well protected from water, dirt, sand, oil, etc.
