NEW LONDON [NH] - A Vermont man was charged with reckless driving after the state police clocked him traveling 128 mph on Interstate 89 Saturday night.
Muhamed Bajic, 19, of Barre, Vt., was traveling south in a 1998 Subaru Impreza RS when he was pulled over by State Trooper Gary Ingham near New London at 9:55 p.m. Ingham was in a marked police car in the highway divide and clocked Bajic using radar, said Sgt. Scott Sweet, who was the Troop D supervising officer Saturday night.
"He said he heard him coming before he saw him," Sweet said. "He said it sounded like an airplane."
Bajic, a soon-to-be high school graduate who said he had aspirations of becoming a police officer, said he was speeding on the straightaway where he was pulled over, but was not going nearly as fast as 128 mph.
"I was shocked when he came up to me and said I was driving 128," Bajic said. "I said, 'Officer, my speedometer only goes to 120. I was doing maximum 90.'"
