STi computer reflash

Jan 28, 2005 3 Replies

Has anyone here ever had the eprom in their STi reflashed or added an outboard engine controller?

I'm new to this modern perfromance game and was wondering what your experiences were. I've had more than one company tell me that almost the first thing you should do is reprogram the computer. The Sti, in particular, is programed very conservitivly.

Then again, they're all trying to sell their stuff!

While I don't drive an STi, I do drive a WRX that has a piggyback ECU (UTEC from turboxs). This was one of the first things I added to my car and can honestly say that I picked up 23 WHP and 18 ft/lbs of torque just by installing this (dynoed it before and after to get an idea). Other friends of mine have done the Cobb Accessport option, Vishnu Exede, and Elementtuning ECU. For ease of use I'd say the Exede/Accessport options are probably the best, but if you are looking to do more mods after you get going then I'd look into the UTEC for sure or maybe even the Elementtuning ECU.

Did you get the UTEC stage 1 or 2? Just interested...

I want to put a stage-1 in my MY05 WRX...and then replace the up-pipe later on and wonder about the need to go stage 2 after that or can I stick to stage 1? I don't wana go too aggressive and lose all my mileage. What kind of change in MPG did you get? The way I drive right now on my stock WRX I get around 20mpg (city, short drives. 25 for long highway trips), if that tells you anything....
