2000 Toyota Celica clutch or master or Slave cylinder problems? please help

Hello All, I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S 6 speed manual transmission. Hydraulic clutch.

I have been gone for about a week and a half, thus my car sat for that long indoors at about 60-65 deg F. We took the car out and drove to the store , everything was just fine. We parked and went in, came out , that's when the problems began. I got back into the car and attempted to put the car into reverse. The car would not go into reverse, it simply sat and grinded. I then attempted to put the car into any other gear, it would not go into gear. I then turned the car off, and put it into reverse, started the car with the clutch in just fine, I then reversed out of the parking spot just fine. Shifted into first with a little additional effort and I was on my way. I was able to shift into all the gears with what appeared to be little problem, most shifts were done at lower RPM's.

Now as the past couple days went by, I have experienced the same symptoms, the car won't go into reverse while running, Reverse is a NON synchronized gear in this tranny. I can get the car into 1st gear fairly easily if the car is at a slow roll, but other than that it's pretty tough to get into first.

I do NOT believe it is an issue with synchro's because the car seems to actually be doing that just fine once i get up to speed on the highway. I had a 2000 Celica GT-S 6 speed before this one and had syncrho issues, and this problem is not even close to the same. At this point i know the following:

1.The clutch does not slip. I've done the various tests to see if it is indeed a problem with the clutch , it does not appear to be so 2.There are no leaks that I can see. I have looked extensively (around the tranny, the fluid reservoir) 3.The brake fluid level (where the clutch fluid shares from) is right in the middle between "MIN" and "MAX".

To me at this point it sounds as though I have an issue with the master cylinder, but I'm just not completely sure. Please offer any assistance you can. here are some PDF's that may allow you to see some of what I'm up against. How to repair MT Clutch

| | I'd watch the slave cylinder actuate while someone is pressing the pedal for you. Sounds like it's not disengaging completely. That could be a problem with the slave cylinder, or it could even be a broken or bending clutch actuation arm. Rex in Fort Worth
