(99 Cavalier) I had to replace a rotten rear brake line. The master cyclinder never ran dry, but I had some problem with a fitting under the car, so there was a fair amount of fluid loss. The new line is in, and there don't appear to be any leaks.
I have bled the lines per the service manual: starting with the 2 bleeders on the "hydraulic modulator" (ABS), ... etc. But, the pedal is still wrong: spongy, and maybe fading. Googling the 'net, I find statements like: "ABS systems are VERY sensitive to air bubbles. ... Once a bubble gets into the ABS valves, ... It's definately impossible to [clear] it just by pumping the brake pedal.
Is that true for all ABS? As noted, this one has bleed screws on the modulator.
I could see where air might have worked its way up the line when I was working on the fitting under the car. OTOH, it's always possible that I just didn't bleed enough out, even though I'm 'sure' that I did. Or something else.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, G
