Bad bearings: no load vs load

Aug 29, 2003 0 Replies

When main crank bearings start to fail, will they be most noisy under acceleration/load, and become louder as RPM increases?

Conrod bearings and wristpins: ave read can test by revving to 3500RPM, then abrupt decel to 2000RPM, and can hear bottle clinking noise, as bearings 'float' thru unloaded decel? What do these sound like, when going bad, wrt to load/no-load, and RPM?

Is there a particular difference between an automotive vs a medical stethoscope?

Thank you, Lance
