Passat 130TDI Gas noise under load

My Passat 130 TDI has started making a noise only under load.

The sound is gas (exhaust or air unsure)being blown out somewhere, as it only happens under load I can't determine where the possible leak is, when driving the car it is noticeably louder with the drivers window open, sound appears to be coming from drivers side near or behind the turbo.

The sound as I say is only under load starting at around 2500 rpm and if the car is driven gently the sound is not present at all even at 2500 rpm or more.

Any pointers as to where to start would be most appreciated.

You could start by getting a friend to put a hand over the exhaust and see if you can hear it whilst it is under a bit of pressure. Might help eliminate it (or not).

Sounds like it's got a leak on the inlet side somewhere. You'll be hearing the boost pressure escaping.

Check for any obvious burst hoses, or any slight oily patches on hoses, manifolds etc.
