buying tires at BJ's which brand should I get

My wife's tire blew out while she was on a trip yesterday upstate. The tires are 30,000 miles old so I figured she should replace all four. There's a BJ's near her so I want to send her in to replace them but she doesn't know anything about cars and I know just a little more so I was wondering what would be a quality purchase for a 2000 Honda Civic Sedan. We live in the Northeast so we deal with snow and ice all winter.

I would go with a super high traction 'all season' M&S (mud and snow) or just plain winter tire with lots and lots of little slices (sipes) in the tread blocks if only using one set year round. The little cuts (sipes) act like deck shoes and grab ice with lots of edges.

The benefits of the high traction tire for the long winters out weighs the slight loss of traction on a hot summer or rainy day in my mind.

The best is two sets. Lots of folks have dedicated winter/ice tires on cheap steel rims for those long winters and ice storms...

Go for one of the Yokohama tires.

The Michelins supplied on the 1996 Subaru Outback last up to 120,000 miles. No foolin. Mine, in NYC driving, lasted 90+. Goddamm tires last longer than some cars!

Yoko tires are very cost efficient in the lower priced field. Michelins are the same in the higher priced field

I agree. In so far as specific brands and model numbers, I'd go to Tire Rack and read some reviews for the type of tires that actually fit the car. Having said that, next time I need tires I'm probably getting Goodyear Reatta 2's.
