Hi Group,
I'm having a noise on my Corolla that sounds something like a loose axis moving inside its hole (can't define it better). It occurs when the engine is at idle and has been running for a few minutes. When it's started cold or after a complete warmup the noise can't be heard (well, almost...). The car has 60k miles, 95 model 4A-FE engine. Any ideas?

Could be a number of things. Pinpointing it would really help. If you can start the car while it's cold and producing the noise, pop the hood and listen for it. My knee-jerk response would be, "when's the last time the valve lash was checked?"

The valve lash has never been checked on this car. Will unadjusted valves make such a noise?
Has the timing belt been changed yet? It could be the timing belt tensioner making the noise.
No, it still has the original belt. Is it enough to change the belt or the tensioner needs to be changed as well? The car also consumes some oil (about 1.5 quarts per 6k miles). Could it be related? Is this considered normal oil consumption?
