Gasoline pumped to diesel tank......

Feb 29, 2004 3 Replies

I have diesel engine Volvo Penta MD3 on my sailboat.Just after refueling in one of the marina (in 10 minutes) engine reached temp 280 deg F,I run for another 10 min to drop the anchor and shot off the engine which was red hot.I towed the boat and never use engine again.I suspect that they pumped(20gal) gasoline to diesel tank .Capacity of the tank is 40 gal.I still have this fuel in the tank-How can I check if gasoline is in the tank mixed with diesel ?.Is it any method that you know of or should I find lab that can determine what this fuel consists. If they pumped the gas accidentally or not the engine is probably shot. I will sick compensation for the damage that has been done. Thank You, Best Regards,Ytter

Smell, feel of the fluid.

They will deny it of course.

I'd go with the lab there, Ytter. This involves too much expense for anything other than a professional analysis.

U might want to check the water intake for cooling. My boat was running hot and it turns out it was a bit clocked, did not even look it but some s*it got sucked inside.

I think that a disel/gas mix if 75% disel will run but not very well, u might be able to burn it off.
