I'm an experienced software developer and an electronic tinkerer, but a newbie to automotive electronics who would like to hack an interface to the OBD II in my 1998 Jeep Wrangler and experiment ...
I've ordered a copy of William B. Ribbens' "Understanding Automotive Electronics, Sixth Edition" and David Peter's "OBD II Diagnostic Secrets Revealed"
But I've read that I need other expensive documentation from SAE to understand the software protocol for the OBD II and to obtain the diagnostic codes specific to the Jeep, etc. Is this true?
Any information, tips, pointers, etc. will be much appreciated :)
Thanks.
