late shifting 1995 Toyota tercel

3 speed automatic. Used to shift into second as low as 8 mph, 3rd as low as 15 mph. Now the numbers are 15 and 30. Transmission fluid full. Are these transmissions computer controlled or hydraulic like the old hydramatics? All advice appreciated. Ivan Vegvary

A quick check of AllData tells me they are not computer controlled.

That being the case, I would change the fluid (not flush, just a drain and change) and see if the clog works its way open.

also, purely in theory, not multi-case experience with that model/issue, a TV cable, out of adjustment, would cause improper shift timing.

It's common on cars this age, if multiple hacks have been under the hood, that someone has mistaken cables like the TV cable, or CC cable, for idle settings or other ridiculous 1960's type things you don't ffff with on a 1995 Toyota.
