How do I calculate the conversion from 205/55/16 down to either 13" or



14"? I want to increase sidewall aspect ratio for ride comfort and go to about a 70 series.

Fiqure the diameter of what you are rolling on now:

205mm x .55 = 112.75 112.75 x 2 = 225.5 225.5 / 25.4 = 8.878 8.878 + 16 = 24.878

Or just measure it.

For the new tire on 13" rim:

24.878 - 13 = 11.878 11.878 /2 = 5.939 5.939 x 25.4 = 150.85 150.85 / .70 = 215.5 so a 215/70/13 would be very close

For the new tire on 14" rim:

24.878 - 14 = 10.878 10.878 /2 = 5.439 5.439 x 25.4 = 139.42 139.42 / .70 = 199.172 not so good 139.42 / .65 = 214.49 sounds more like a real tire 215/65/14

I may help us to know what vehicle you're going to try this on, for example, will a 13 or 14 inch wheel fit over the brake caliper??

Now I'm thinking 195/70/14 might be a better choice.

Well, I had posted a reply to this via Google but it didn't take for some reason so I'm trying again...

This is purely theoretical/hypothetical but the target vehicle would be a 2008 Scion xB. In theory I would put some kind of 14" rim with

195/70/14 tires. I don't know the specifics of the rim measurements such as offset, bolt pattern, or whether it would clear the brakes.

Or you could just use someone's online tire size calculator.

The thing is, 215/65/14 doesn't appear to be a real tire size. I don't see any listed in that size on tirerack.com or other sites. And besides, when you decrease sidewall, you usually increase width slightly, and conversely I would think that when minus sizing one would decrease width slightly, hence the 195 width as opposed to the

215 width.

That's a nice one too. But I like how the powerdog one gives you the sidewall result also.
