Periodic motor stalling

1991 Dodge Caravan SE, 3.0 litre, auto trans, air conditioner

Periodically when the foot is taken off the accelerator the motor stalls. Starts immediately & runs fine as long as a slight pressure is kept on the accelerator. If not, it stalls & has to be restarted. Not a big problem on the highway, because it can be shifted into neutral & restarted; in city driving a bit more inconvenient!



This stalling occurs approx once every 3-4 months, & clears up after about 4-5 stalls.



Has been this way since van was new, but when taken back to Chrysler dealer there was never a problem so they couldn't fix it.



New motor was put in about 1 year ago, & problem still exists. Had several tune-ups over the years, & there is no change to the pattern. Apart from the mentioned problem, the car runs great.



Any thoughts on the source of the problem? tks, alp

Clean the throttle body and AIS passages and service the *entire* crankcase ventillation (PCV) system.

Chrysler outa figure this crap out for us. Jezzz they built the thing. My daughters car 1987 reliant stalls regularly first trip of the day even at 80KPH. My Chrsyler Dynasty does like yours...stalls a couple of times a year even at as much as 20KPH.

I ahve seen posts of much later model Chrylsers doing it. Jezz the ones coming off the line may be gonna do it!!!

i think if they can't figure it out maybe...some voodoo empolyee is responsible and there is no actual cause. Or maybe they just dont give a s*it. Time to buy a toyota. They dont stall at least mine haven't.

Cripes what is the matter with a company of this size that they can give their customers some help with a very big and potentially dangerous problem. William, pissed-off in Vancouver
