Please help my sick 93 Altima

Here's a problem mechanics around here can't find...

i have a 93 Altima that after not running for a few days at temperatures around zero F will act funny, here's how.

it will start, iddle for warm up (2000rpm) a few senconds then die.

after repetitive atempts (20) of giving gas and not giving gas and cranking it will idle for warm up again but maybe 3 seconds after will die.

once it has finally started, 30 mins or so later, it will iddle but any atempt to give it throtle will choke the engine and it will die.

about 20-30 minutes after the engine is warmed up the engine runs perfectly for a 93 nissan. no hesitation, no choking.

mechanics have changed spark plugs, spark plug cables, cleaned injectors, changed fuel pump and other stuff without fixing the problem.

it seems as though because the computer can't tell them whats wrong they have no idea what's wrong.

i played around with it when cold, removed the air filter and noticed that whenever i pull the throtle cable and the engine starts choking, exactly at the same time there is an air sucking sound comming from the air intake where the air filter would be. i release the throtle the air sucking sound stops and the engine idles normaly again.

any ideas??

thanks Steven

Sounds like a vac leak from my past experiences. The air suckling sound is a vacuum leak amplified thru the air intake port. On a cold motor the damage diaphragm flips open, but when warm it seals up, making a suckling sound, usually from playing with the throttle.

The fix is to locate the leak when it begins stall using a stetho- tube, a homemade ear vacuum leak finder. Or you could try the classic water spray bottle, ether, propane, or etc.

What you're describing is a bad engine coolant sensor. The computer is unaware of the cold start condition. Also the Nissan 2.4L, and 3.0L engines (if this is what you have) have had issues with mass airflow sensors. The CTS (coolant temp. sensor) runs about $40 and the MAF runs well in to $600 to $800 range. The car should be taken to a Nissan dealer for diagnostics only. It will cost you $50 to $100 to know pretty much what is wrong. You then go to your mechanic or do it yourself if you like to.
