Not to asperse such good fortune, we have to remember that these are deep water fields and production can be difficult and costly, that we only recover a fraction (maybe a third) of the oil which is in the field in primary production, and that the perception of plenty can destroy the reality of it.
Congratulations to Chevron, in any case.
If I remember correctly (and I am sure I will be soundly flamed if I don't) , the SACROC field near Snyder, Texas had passed the 50 billion barrel mark in production long ago.

The SACROC Unit recently passed the 1.3 billion bbl mark. I used to live there and work on the wells. I went back last year and found the smaller towns are nearly ghost towns now.

Sorry. I havent been there in years, and thought that the last time I was there the sign said 50 billion. Must have been 500 million.
They pulled a bunch of oil out of Canyon Reef, didnt they?

Yes. Once you work with oil it seems to stay with you for ever.
