Re: Who Says they aren't making any more oil?

50%!!!!! OH DAMN!!! Thats a lot! I saw a really cool article in the Times magazine somewhere about how they could make gas, the same gas we use now. You wouldn't need any engine mods or a hybrid or a new engine period. They could make the same gas we use now synthetically, in a lab with waste and other gross bi-products that would otherwirse just be incinerated. I can't find it online or else I'd post it.

Not to asperse such good fortune, we have to remember that these are deep water fields and production can be difficult and costly, that we only recover a fraction (maybe a third) of the oil which is in the field in primary production, and that the perception of plenty can destroy the reality of it.

Congratulations to Chevron, in any case.

If I remember correctly (and I am sure I will be soundly flamed if I don't) , the SACROC field near Snyder, Texas had passed the 50 billion barrel mark in production long ago.

The SACROC Unit recently passed the 1.3 billion bbl mark. I used to live there and work on the wells. I went back last year and found the smaller towns are nearly ghost towns now.

Sorry. I havent been there in years, and thought that the last time I was there the sign said 50 billion. Must have been 500 million.

They pulled a bunch of oil out of Canyon Reef, didnt they?

Yes. Once you work with oil it seems to stay with you for ever.
