the elephant in the room on that debacle is "micro$oft". frod jumped into bed with micro$oft years ago back in the days of the web server wars. m$ have been trying to leverage that position ever since. for whatever reason, frod have decided that "techno-shiny" was the place to be, and needed a solution quick. m$ threw one together, and presto, something fit only to be flushed down the toilet.
if frod's management had any sense, they'd pay attention to m$'s other "successes" in anything faintly resembling a competitive market place like phones, mp3 players, etc. and move to a proven embedded system and not that crap m$ charges a fortune for. they could do it virtually overnight if they're sending out flash drives with new system images.
if they used an open system, [as in open source], that people could modify for themselves, it would storm the market in no time. seriously.
