SilverStar headlights

Behind this question is often a wish for a magic bulb that makes lousy headlamps into good ones. That's the wish these "blue", "white", "Xtreme", "silver", "hyper", "5000K", "55W = 85W", etc. products are pandering to. Some of 'em do an OK job of producing the *illusion* of having changed rotten headlamps into decent ones, but sadly there is no magic bulb. Bad headlamps stay bad regardless of what bulb is put into them. About all you can do is make them as "least worst" as possible with a high-efficiency bulb (in your case, Sylvania Xtravision 9006XV, Philips High Visibility

9006HV and 9005HV, GE High Output 9006HO and 9005HO, Candlepower Bright Light 9006BL and 9005BL, Wagner BriteLite 9006BL and 9005BL) and good wires. Many headlamps that behave badly are actually decent and are just "starved" due to excessive voltage drop in the factory headlamp wiring.

This fix can present a hurdle on Canadian cars that have headlamp-based Daylight Running Lamps, but it's no big deal, you just disable the factory headlamp DRLs and move the (required in Canada) DRL function to the turn signals with the module available at

I have alway wondered whether a side benefit of the stock skinny wiring would be to limit the surge current when the bulb is first turned on - thereby protecting the filament and the switch or relay contacts from the shock. Any opinions?

Not the case.

Ok, so those Osram Silverstar headlights seem pretty good, but is there a way to make them work in place of the 9007 bulbs in my '97 Ford T'bird? Isn't there some kind of wiring adapter for them?
