Sound like a fuel pump?

89 Toyota Cressida. About 1.5 years ago replaced the crapped out factory fuel pump with a not-Toyota pump from one of the chain parts houses. Ran fine until about a week ago. Drove all day, was in a parking lot, came back out, car started but stumbled upon starting, died. Started it again, ran kind of stumbly until I gave it some gas and got it up to speed then it seemed to be okay....

...until last night when it did the same thing - as it so happened it was in the same parking lot - but the symptoms got worse. Ran hitchy - intermittent cutting out, eventually died in the road. Pulled into the median. After a few minutes of cranking/dying, cranking no start, finally got it running enough to get it home. This am it fired right up and it's running smooth as silk, just as it did between instances described above.

Does this intermittent symptom that seems to be getting worse make you think fuel pump?

Thanks.

Possibly. Some people look at fuel pump current on oscilloscope to check brush wear, or intermittent.

Sounds like a problem with the ignition system. Just a guess.
