A good platinum plug design (Autolite, for example) puts enough platinum in the electrode so that its low bulk conductivity isn't a problem. Bosch plugs with their hair-thin electrodes have all kinds of problems including wear rates comparable to a copper plug! (why use a hard metal and then offset it by not using enough of it? Makes no sense!). Avoid them, they're junk.

Interesting... what about those new NGK's Iridium.. They claim to use less voltage to create a spark. Wonder if they are more resistant to fouling.

After I destroyed a set of Bosch platinum in a modified Volvo 740 running up to 17lb boost I phoned Bosch and was told that thy do not recommend these for turbo charged vehicles. I switched to NGK iridium and had the m in for two years. I looked them occasionally and they do not look worse for wear. The center electrode in NGK iridium is thicker the Bosch platinum.

Why not just use NGK coppers for $2/plug and throw them away each year ?
I've used them in several vehicles with great success.

True but as you yourself said, it's immaterial in this application for several reasons you listed. Which brings me back to my question, why do people keep saying plat is poor because it's conductivity is poor when it's immaterial. It would seem they are just passing on urban myths but I was curious if the myth passers were aware of something I was missing.

Now that I know that they have minimal wear I do not have to look at them as often nor I have to be as concerned with the gap widening like in this Bosch Platinum

I have had a set of Denso Iridiums in my 944 turbo for a couple of years now, and would have gone thru at least a couple of sets of NGK BPR6ES's and they still look fine. The car didn't seem to run as well on the platinums. YMMV. I haven't noticed any power change vs. the NGK's.
