Transmission help

1998 Rodeo LS 165,000 mile. While traveling, my transmission started slipping, and had an obvious leak. I had the fluid flushed and changed, and was told they changed a tube that had a leak. The trans. worked perfectly immediately after the service, but overnight it leaked off a significant amount of fluid. At that point, I drove it back to where the service was done the previous day, and they refilled the fluid, and reattached/resealed the suspect tube. Again, after this effort, everything worked great,smooth/no leaks, with one exception...it wont go in reverse. It reacts when moved from N to R, or P to R, but will only rev when I excellerate. On day 2, before I took it back to be refilled, reverse worked, but the transmission would "slip" in both D and R. While driving the 2.2 miles to the service center, the "check engine" light flashed in red. After the 2nd service this light has not come back on. Could this have triggered a switch, or ERROR code that is keeping an otherwise functional transmission from performing properly? Do I have any hope of restoring functionality without completely overhauling, rebuilding, or replacing the transmission? Also, what is the ov/un on $$$ according to the oddsmakers? Thank you for your help and responses
