Actually, I retract my statement....I believe that you are right. It would really make no difference which end you did, you would still have to drive it to get the steering wheel straight if there was some sort of thrustline issue. Sorry, too many years since I used it, and have gotten much more familiar with modern alignment equipment.

Its not the technology, its the PEOPLE. I have two alignment shops that I use- one is entirely the "old school," the other entirely computerized. Both do a great job and both can tell me what they've done, why, and what the effects are going to be. The reason I now use the new-school shop more is because I can keep a printed record of any non-standard specs that I've had them try to alter handling a little. And, they tend to hit the factory specs quite a bit closer than the old method, too. But it DOES require a competent operator- a dummy can mess up an alignment with a computerized machine MUCH faster than he can with the old setup!
And old-fashioned alignments require the mechanic to get his WHOLE BODY dirty :-p
