One Car for 4 Licensed Drivers

In my family, we have one car for 4 licensed drivers. We brought up our children cycling, and now that they're older (one is a Junior in High School and the other is a Freshman in college), they have continued the good habit. I commute by bicycle to work year round, regardless of weather, unless the roads are treacherous. My commute is 8 miles.

Nowadays, if I lived in a large city with mass transit, I would combine

mass transit with a nice folding bicycle. Jim Gagnepain

You are to be commended, Jim. Too many fat slobs hop into their vehicle, Toyotas included, and a block to buy some junk food. Your actions help keep the roads clearer for those of us who NEED to use a vehicle.

I'll bet your pay check "Sharx35" doesn't live in South Dakota or Wyoming. LOL

My commute is 20 miles each way, about an hour on my slicks - as fast as the car and only 10 mins longer than the train. I do do it by bicycle when i can but in the UK its generally pouring with rain and the drivers try their best to knock you off. Cycling saves me =A360 a week in fuel (60 litres) but also means i a) Spend twice as much on food a day (about =A330 per week), needing about 5500 calories to stay healthy. b) Breathe in more fumes CO and pollutants than a 40 per day smoker according to a few studies

But then I still have to pay a fortune for a tank of fuel for when i NEED my car and my 'heavily polluting car' that i rarely use (but love dearly) still gets taxed to death. So its very tempting not to bother for the sake of =A330 and a few billionths of a degree off the next centuries average temperature. Governments have to make it far more appealing than it currently is before anyone will be convinced.
