OT: Blaming Bush for Our Debt and Everything

Bush is not a great President. No doubt about it.

However, the truth is the only person to blame in America for American's problems are Americans.

I don't blame Clinton when people were running record personal debt and credit card debt in the late 90's. That's American's fault.

We are a people who do not honor our contracts or risk not honoring them. We get a loan and we don't work our hardest to pay it off ASAP. Instead we go out to eat 3 times a week... wives go to bed bath and beyond.. husbands run up a debt at lowes.

Suddenly the market gets shaky and where is your nest egg? Your nest egg is in useless sh_t hanging around your house made for pennies by cheap ass labor in a foreign country.

We don't invest our money in things we will need for the long term. The truth is that most people who don't have insurance can afford it. They chose not to buy it because it takes away from their fun and games. It takes away with buying the DVD of the week, the few restraunt trips a week, the cable TV, the high speed internet, the trinkets, the candy, the fast food runs (not that kind of runs)... etc etc etc and it goes on and on and on...

The days when people lived for what they needed have changed. We live for what we want. That's not bad, but take care of your needs first... right?

Speaking of, my sister, who is uninsured, just bought a brand new LCD TV... Hope you enjoy paying for her surgery!

Sure. The fact of the matter is, there are plenty of stupid, venal, petty and greedy people in this country and without them, life would be w-a-a-a-y better. If there was a way to crush them under the wheels... umm... let's make that "punish them for their societal sins," I'd be there.

Unfortunately, that's not the whole story. There's lots of hard-working, decent, kind, generous, honest people who also get punished - just for the Original Sin of being born at a disadvantage and not findind a way to get ahead before some axe falls on them (most bankruptcies are preceded by an illness). A lot of the country works very hard and still lives close to the edge, one paycheck away from a meltdown. And then there's their kids; I can't stand idly by and watch kids suffer. That's inhuman.

Some other people feel this way. However, there's a constant undercurrent of Calvinists in this country who think that misfortune is a sign of God's disfavor and that the poor are getting exactly what they deserve. This has a tremendous impact on the politics of dealing with poverty.

Consequently, all we've got is a patchwork of systems that pretend to be a safety net and we've got a lot of people falling through the holes, anyway.

And, I don't want to ask this just to put you on the spot but do you openly express distaste at your sister's lifestyle? I can understand that's hard to do but one of the things we seem to lack in this country is the will to shame others.

And, if you meant that your sister is actually having surgery - I hope she makes a good recovery.

These people you speak about I have known. I have met suposed poor people. Suposed poor people who have xbox's, playstations, 35 inch televisions. I have met the working class. I have seen their homes and their two cars.

Affordable housing? Yeah, we hate to see people living in dumps. We consider a 1000 squarefoot home a dump though.

In any nation you will have those who are just unfortunate but rarely are they a larger minority. They are a small minority. Our idea of poor in this nation is ridiculous. People are afraid to live in manufactured homes or purchase a 50 thousand dollar condo. Instead, poor, is a 110 thousand dollar home.. etc etc... it goes on!
