OT Must be an election tommorow

I've never heard seen - or heard of - a stainless steel pool. Sounds virtually indesctructible &... expensive.

Where do you live (general area)? Lots of people here have pools, even though they're used only from May or June through early-mid Sept. The winters may be snowy & cold, but the summers can be plenty hot.

Lot's of folks have pools here also, still doesn't make a good area for backyard swiming pools. We have short summers, with two or three month transitional periods, (fall, spring) and during that period it can be very crappy weather, the rest is winter. Even summers can be cool and not conducive to backyard swimming, burrrrrr. You can pour a lot of money into a pool, then they tax you for it by raising property tax. Then you have to maintain it and it has to be made secure. Lot of monkey business. I rather like to sit back and watch birds and sip on a tall cool one. If I were in Az or Calif or any number of other warm places it would be a vastly different story they, would be nice.

Yep. I think it came in several peices then assembled and installed. I was not around when it was put in. It's fairly big. Not classy like the tiled pools. There is one of those one house to the South of me and it is very nice looking. There is some work to keeping them up however.

Well, this is different than what your post first implied: that people - except for your neighbor - generally don't have pools in your locale. Depends on how much pleasure people get from the pool vs. the maintenance needed & amount of time when it can be used. To me, not worth it. To my sister, OTOH, it is because she *loves* having a pool (she lifeguarded all through HS & college), using it as often as possible.

I'll state it a little different. for every say 200-500 single family houses (my unscientific estimate) there is perhaps one pool house, depending again what part of town you live in. Some areas you don't see pools anywhere, other areas there are a few scattered around.

I really cannot say exactly how many pools are in this metro area of 2.5 million, but they are not real common. I live in a suburb of about

90000, (estimated as of today).

Perhaps you should not have drained out the water ;)

Some of the pools seen in rural areas have another purposes besides recreation. They are there to reduce ones home insurance premiums or as a tax deduction for medical reasons ;)

And you thought it was sweat? ;)

All I can *possibly* think of that's semi along this line of thought are the ponds that farmers have - which fire companies use/pump from in case of a fire in a rural area.

We knew that.

Perhaps in your opinion, but liability insurance coverage on ones property is normally based on the amount of coverage one wishes to acquire and pay premiums.

Ones annual fire insurance coverage, on the other hand, is adjusted for the proximity of the home to a fire station, fire plug or readily available source of fresh, non salt, water.

For instance my homes are insured for replacement value but I carry millions more in liability coverage than the value of any of my home(s,) and cars for that matter, because of my overall wealth.

My home on the Banks in NC is twenty seven miles from the nearest fire plug and five miles from the nearest fire station, but I receive a discount on my premium because I have a pool and none of the other homes nearby have pools. ;)
