OT: Under New Management

Looks like Bush-1 is doing his part to keep his stupid little puppy from blowing up Eastern Europe, and 25 years worth of diplomatic efforts with the Russians.

Good; preventative damage control. I've always wondered what George HWB's views have been re: GWB's presidency with its various & sundy disasters. And has he expressed his opinions to GWB, or kept them basically to himself? (I've seen a couple of interviews where he's said that he keeps his nose out of it, but still...) Quotes from link's article: "I'm very grateful to the Bush family for this very warm, cozy atmosphere around this meeting, and we appreciate it very much," Putin said. "I do believe that we have to learn something from the older generation." (He's not kidding, esp. in this case!)

Meanwhile, a group calling for President Bush's impeachment organized a rally that drew about 1,000 people at Kennebunkport park. Most protested the Iraq war; a few highlighted Putin's crackdown on dissidents.

"We've lost 3,500 soldiers in Iraq. . Bush is unwilling to admit that this is a failure," said Bill Muldoon of Freeport, Maine.

"It's a very weak position he has coming into this meeting with Putin," Beth Muldoon said. "I don't see that there's going to be a lot of leverage that he has in telling Putin what he should be doing." (She's not kidding...)

What are you talking about? This meeting is between President George W. Bush and President Vlamidir Putin of Russia. Former President George H. W. Bush is not part of the meeting as far as the article you referenced is concerned, only his speedboat.

Do you even read the articles you post?

Daddy Bush can't talk to Sonny Bush in-btween the mtgs., giving this & that advice to Sonny? The mtg. just *happens* to be at Kennebunkport?

I could ask you the same question. Caption under 2nd picture:

"President Bush (front, from left), Russian President Vladimir Putin and former President George H.W. Bush ride on the fishing boat Fidelity III on Sunday off Kennebunkport, Maine." If you think daddy was just there to put them on fish, you're high.

Previously, the puppy Bush was faced with the Iraq study commission, staffed largely by old friends of his dad's, who is pulling strings behind the scenes to make sure the family name isn't sullied any further. If you had any sense of history, you'd have noticed this.

The ISG was led by co-chairs James Baker, a former Secretary of State (Republican), and Lee Hamilton, a former U.S. Representative (Democrat).

Republicans In addition to Baker, the panel's Republican members were:

a.. Sandra Day O'Connor, former Supreme Court Justice b.. Lawrence Eagleburger, former Secretary of State c.. Edwin Meese III, former US Attorney General d.. Alan K. Simpson, former U.S. Senator from Wyoming

Democrats In addition to Hamilton, the panel's Democratic members were:

a.. Vernon Jordan, Jr., business executive b.. Leon E. Panetta, former White House Chief of Staff c.. William J. Perry, former US Secretary of Defense d.. Charles S. Robb, former Governor and U.S. Senator from Virginia

You are making up scenarios now. Joe's assertion was wrong in the first place and you are trying to cover for him. We don't even know if Daddy Bush is at the premises.

Just admit Joe jumped the gun, just as he usually does on any topic.

Well, there he is on the boat, with his puppy, and Putin. Do you suppose they hired a look-alike from Hollywood for this occasion?

All right, I'll grant you are correct that he was there. The article didn't mention it but I didn't bother to read the pictures. In any case, Bush-1 has no authority over what his son decides to do. If Bush-1 had finished the job he started in 1989 Saddam Hussein would never have been emboldened to continue thumbing his nose at the world community and continue his WMD programs.

You must've had an odd relationship with your father. Authority has absolutely NOTHING to do with his role in the current situation.

Why do you suppose the Iraq Study Group was packed with people his dad had worked with successfully in the past? Random choice? A roll of the dice? Maybe they used a lottery machine, and put candidates' names on the balls.

Don't you think Putin's going a little overboard?

Far be it from me to defend Bush, but I think Putin's kinda paranoid.

As Bush said, "Don't hyperventilate over it."

You kidding?

And it's from NPR to boot...

Who's that in the boat, then? (Caption: "President Bush (front, from left), Russian President Vladimir Putin and former President George H.W. Bush ride on the fishing boat Fidelity III on Sunday off Kennebunkport, Maine. AP")

The UN told him to or face the consequences. Stormin' Norman was thirty miles from Baghdad when the order came down to turn around.

I guess G.H.W.B actually *cared* what the rest of the world thought...

Was that a pun?

The photo - do you think it was doctored up by NPR, to include papa Bush in the boat?

Ya know, I don't know *what* H.W. was doing while he was there, but I think, later, we'll *ALL* be thankful he was!!!

At least we weren't *COMPLETELY* hated by the rest of the world!

The biggest reason they didn't like him when he was in office was because he wouldn't sign the Kyoto Agreement...Thank GOD!!!

Good. Now, explain your reasoning to golfboy, who's still stuck in worship mode with his president.
