All sentient and well-informed adults need to know if a certain type of policy will be continued, and what a candidate thinks of certain policies. The name of the doctrine does not matter, but at the time Couric asked the question, all sentient and well-informed adults knew what "Bush doctrine" meant. If it makes you feel better, change the name to the Acme Doctrine.
