That may well be, compared to an older car but that is not the point. The question is, does a hybrid save money over a conventionally powered car of the same size and equipment that is also on the market today. In that comparison the answer is a resounding no. Hybrids can save fuel, but they can not save money compared to a conventionally powered twin The hybrid Highlander will cost $7000 more to own than a conventionally power Highlander over five years according to published reports based on the difference if fuel consumption, and even more to own after ten years even if fuel cost should go to $5 a gallon..

So I'm saving $1680 a year, not as much as the taxi companies have at $1000 >a month, but still good enough for me over the old dinosaur I had.
