Nope...maybe this

Another thing to be considered....If the child or young person doesn't close the door fully, and the light stays on, isn't it the primary responsibility of the DRIVER (presumably an adult) to ascertain whether any of the doors have been left open and lock up the damned car when returning home? This father seems to put all the responsibility on the kid (whose age we still don't know.) It's always somebody ELSE'S fault, isn't it?

Yep. My guess: The kid's too small to have his fingers anywhere near a car door without an adult standing right behind him. Dad's too busy thinking about fatball to put any effort into doing the right thing.

Maybe I wanted the liberals to have to read what a real Democrat said....

I think my 2000 Sienna says the lights would go off after like 30 minutes, even if the door is open. Faster (like 30 seconds) if the door is closed. This is the Auto door lights, not if the lights were manually turned on.

Hi,

1) Teach your son that if he continues to do this, there will be consequences.

2) Check your Sienna every night, e.g. when putting out the garbage, to make sure that doors are closed and all lights are off.

Good luck.

My car has automatic closers that pull the door and deck lid closed if it is not latched all the way. An unintended side effect is that I don't always push the doors on our other cars hard enough to make sure the door is fully latched, although trying to lock the door with the remote when it is not fully latched results in a constant warning tone.

Not the case with the 04 Sienna, I don't know about subsequent model years. There has been quite a bit of discussion on the Sienna Club web site over the past three years regarding dome lights and dead batteries.

Someone introduced a bill to make spanking illegal in California, the next best punishment would be to hide the kids' video game controllers (before it is declared a cruel and unusual punishment)

Yep, the dome light does go off after a while even if the door is open. This is what saves us. Sometimes the door is wide open [kids happen]; sometimes it does not close all the way, just to the first click and not to the second, full closure click. If this is not notices and one does not do the hip check thing to it the light will stay on for a while and go off on its own.

I am still thinking that this (30 minute??) time-out circuit ought to be at least checked out. Tomes

Spanking is already supposedly illegal in Sweden and see what they turn out? SAAB's (Supposedly what you do after you buy one) and Volvos (Now Ford-Sweden, nuff said.) And of course, ABBA.

Spanking a child is not beating a child, despite what the Department of Communists and Frustrated Socialists says. (Illinois DCFS, I've been calling them that since I was old enough to have a political opinion of my own.) I will never have kids as long as I'm living in Illinois because I'd be at the top of the DCFS hit list 90 percent of the time. I see all the little misbehaving brats in stores and my palm just ITCHES to apply the Board of Education to the Seat of Learning. Parents are not supposed to be the kid's best pal, they're supposed to be PARENTS. Kids don't know how to behave in public and take care of themselves, that's why they're called MINORS. Had I behaved like that in public, my parents would have given me a reason to not sit down for nearly a week and we knew it. Mom expected.us to behave a certain way in public. No excuses.

I have a switch on my Corolla that turns the headlights off when I open the door but on the old Corolla the switch had worn out. I got neither dome light on nor headlights off after a while. But I put 230,000+ miles on the thing.
