synthetic gear oil

I was reading that Mobil 1 gear oil for manual boxes is well worth using for obvious reasons. On zero degree start up the gear engage nicely as the oil is not thick at those temperatures.

Also I read this oil can left in the gearbox for ever without changing. Is that true?

Mine is not. I think ever 27,000 miles they state an oil change using the normal mineral oil.

A smoother shift? faster shift?

Can Amsoil or Mobil 1 be left in the gearbox for ever? Or do you still, need to drain it at intervals? The car is out of warranty so no problem in that respect.

Surely it is cost effective, beside the advantages of a fully synthetic gear oil, to put it in for the life of the car. Then no worries about ever changing gear oil.

The shifting was smoother than before the change, less resistance. You would still need to change the transmission gear oil as directed by the scheduled maintenance guide for the vehicle.

I found a reliable transmission clinic in my city that sold the exact grade Amsoil product that was compatible to my model Corolla transmission. My Toyota dealer gave me a credit for the gear oil cost when they did the work for me.

I bought the gear oil in the fall and kept it in my trunk before the transmission service was done. On the coldest winter days (

Remember that, in general, Amsoil products are not ASE certified, and could void whatever warranty you have on the lubricated parts.

Castrol make Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 fully synthetic gear oil:

It clearly makes shifting easier and easier in very cold starts by the comments. It must be available in the US/Canada. I it is assume much cheaper than Amsoil. Although Amsoil is 100% synthetic while Castrol clearly will have a mineral oil base. 100% synthetics last far longer than oil with a mineral oil base (which are called fully synthetics).
