Hello everyone:
1987 Camry - 4 cylinder - automatic - 198,000 miles
Lately (last 2-3 months) the car seems to be running at extremely high RPM. Noticeable at high speeds .. 60mph or higher. I cannot measure this as there is no gage in the instrument panel, .. the engine noise is also noticeably higher.
I feel that the transmission may not be shifting once it goes to this speed. I can feel transmission shifting when I start from a dead-stop and gradually increase speed, but once it goes higher than 45 mph I do not feel any more shifts. Transmission fluid looks fine .. and was changed about 2 years back (30000 miles back). Could this be the problem ?
I have tried running in power mode (pressing that switch) or leaving it off.
Otherwise, the car runs fine, with decent pickup, good gas mileage (30mpg). I turn the radio volume high and the noise problem is gone :)
Thanks for your feedback.
