94 camry brakes

Hello, My 1994 Camry (4 cylinder 220,000km) creaks under very hard braking. There are no noises evident under gentle/medium braking. Brake performance is good, other than for the creaking noise. Pads/discs are OK.

It sounds like a rubber/bush has gone, rather than a grinding type noise.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Andrew

Assuming the noise comes from the front of the vehicle:

This one may be the caliper-slide pins due loss of lubrication. The calipers on these cars and all single piston calipers rely on the 'equal and opposite force' law to operate ie once the piston has contacted the brake-disk/rotor, the piston body which is actually 1/2 of the caliper, moves away from the rotor dragging the opposite side of the caliper with the other pad against the other side of the disk via the slide-pins.

Once the slide-pin seals fail, the lubrication is lost and they can creak under load.

There are other culprits such as the bottom ball-joints or lower-inner locating arm bushes (the lower arm effectively 'locates and holds' the lower end of the Macpherson- strut as the suspension/ steering and braking work),..these come under substantial side-load under braking. Lesser participants include the upper Macpherson mount and the roll-bar attachment ball and socket-joints,.....can be quite difficult finding some noises as thrust angles change under braking.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, noise is definitely coming from front end. I still have not had a chance to check lube on pins, but will let you know tyhe outcome. Thanks Andrew
