(99 camry) need a bolt - air filter area

For the 99 camry, it looks like I'm missing a bolt. It would connect the air filter housing to the carbon canister below it.

Looks like it should be about 2-3 inches long, maybe I'm guessing 3/8 of an inch diameter.

Anyone have specs for this bolt, the part number, etc?

Thanks,

Mike

Carbon canister? Shouldn't that be near the rear axle?

Soundsl like you have a lot of problems with that Camry ;)

Oh well. First time buying a used car. Drives ok, I was just wondering if the mouse-sound would get me killed on the highway.

What's the correct terminology for the box just next to the air intake filter housing? The bolt that connects to *that*. :)

There should be a fuse box between the filter housing and the fender. There should be a resonator in the path below the intake hose right after the housing.

Other than that I'm not sure because none of the Camrys I tried to flag down will stop ;)

I'm pretty sure it's the charcoal canister, but maybe it's the resonator. Looking at the car, under the hood, it's the device immediately to the rear of the air filter housing.

Need a bolt for that.

Failing an exact spec, are all bolt diameters measured in millimeters?

3/8 inch is about 9.5 mm, maybe the bolt is a little skinnier than that, I could get some 9, 8, 7 mm bolts...

In my experience over some 25 years of Toy ownership, nearly everything under the hood is 10mm or 12mm. There are some exceptions, but 10mm wins nearly everytime.

If you have a metric 10mm socket, take off some 10mm bolt from some other part...battery holddown?....and see if it fits. Having said that, I think the air filter bolts on my 03 are 12mm....

Figured it out. It's a 6mm diameter bolt, 25 mm long, but it drives with a 10mm socket wrench. It's a 40-cent zinc-plated bolt from Home Depot.
