A/C button sticks

My daughter's '98 Camry has a problem with the Air Conditioning button. When "pressed on" it stays "pressed on." It is the type that you push on and then push off when you want to turn it off. When "on" a green light in the center of the button is illuminated.

I can usually get to pop back off after repeated pokes at the button. Any suggestions about a fix for this....?

here's a pix of the same unit (it is the original factory air).

The button in question is on the left side, just above the dial that turns the blower off and on and controls blower speed.

== All I can suggest is try a spray of silicone lubricant. If that doesn't work you'ld have to replace the switch.

Not a bad idea. Actually, makes me think. I have a can of electrical contact cleaner that I bought last year when my son's Mustang needed the MAF cleaned.....Think I'll try a zap. Can't hurt....

Contact cleaner is usually a solvent (alcohol, etc), but you may need some lubricant at least after cleaning so the switch will pop back out.

But if the spring dislodged or some plastic broke off, then it's a new switch. Unless you want to rig a Radio Shack spring-loaded toggle switch in there. Feels generic enough.

Want to fix switch contacts permenantly. Use DeoxIT. It actually chemically improves connections and keeps them that way. Comes in sprays, wipes and other applicators. I use two products the deoxIT and the DeoxIT GOLD. Specifically the D5S-6 and GN5S-6N allong with the individual wipes and pen applicator.
