Hi, My car is a 90' Camry, 4 cylinder, automatic, 100k mile. When I drive on uphill at highway, if I press gas harder to maintain the speed not too low. There is a vibration noise coming from the front of the passenger side. Generally the noise happens when the speed is at about 45 to 50 mile per hour (or 70 to 80 km per hour). Excuse me I have to write my problem in detail in the following.
From the posts of newsgroup, and the direction of the noise, I think the right engine support needs to be changed. I bought one made by Mevotech, A8207, the model number and the shape are both like EM-8207 from Westar. The engine mount is not the dog-bone for the year 92 and after, and is not like the figure (the screw at the center is horizontal, which is used for earlier than 88' Camry?) in Haynes Repaire book. There is a screw vertically on the top of the mount on my car. A right angle thick aluminium bracket connects the timing chain cover and the top of the engine mount. BTW, when I bought the engine mount, the first two auto shops ordered the front and rear engine mount for me respectively. It seems there are some problems in their computer data. The third auto shop gives me the right part at the end. Today I change the engine mount. To my surprise, I find it is difficult to put the new one back on my car. I cannot make three holes at the base for bolt, nuts and the top screw hole at the right place at same time. When I put three holes at the base in the right places, the top hole was eccentric. I think this may be the cause of the jack was under the oil pan, this was at the right side of the front body of the car, not at the center of the car. Finally when I want to drive my car carefully to the garage 200 meters away from my parking lot, I found the engine moving made the top screw hole almost in the right place. But I cannot screw the bolt in, there was still about 1 to 2 mm eccentricity. When the car drove in the reverse direction, the top hole position is much better than that of the car in front direction. Although I tried using a break bar to move the aluminium bracket, I am not success because I am afraid of using too much force would bring me more trouble.
The technician used a break bar to level the aluminium bracket forward horizonly. I think his manner and force were reasonable. Now all the bolts and nut are in the right places. But I find my is not like before anymore. I can feel a heavy vibration of the car body. When the car is at "N", much less vibration can be felt. Excuse me there is no rpm meter at the dash board, I cannot tell the exact rpm number. I feel the car is more heavy. When the car is at stop, it will not move if I don't press the gas. Before the engine mount changing, my car is more quiet. When I press the gas, the car moves very freely and instantly. And the acceleration is much rapid than present.
I don't know what's the problem. Just before changing the engine mount, I changed the power steering fluid. I don't think there are some relation with the vibration. I have compared the new part and the original mount, no difference was found. And I don't think I lift the motor too high although I did several times to try put the new and the original mount in place. I have tried to loose two nuts and one bolt at the base in order to accormodate to a better position freeely later. I feel the car moves freely a little. If I don't press gas at a stop, the car can moves forward. But the vibration is still there. Due to this terrible result, I have not tried the uphill on highway. Could you help me?
Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
