Oil Changes

Europeans don't drive mile to grocery store - they walk. There trafic is usually not as congested as in our cities. Both these result in sever usage picture. Their driving is usually for longer distances. Many of them also have larger oil capacities for higher speed driving. Plus oil is whole lot more costly there and most use synthetic - even more costly!

Most of the cars sold in Europe require an oil that is equivalent to synthetic blend or full synthetic sold in the US. This is because of pollution concerns in Europe of used oil and the generally higher cost of oil in Europe. If you use full synthetic in the US, you can go longer than

I thought that for normal driving, the Toyota interval is 7500 miles. Maybe they have changed it newer vehicles.

There is no way you can go 100,000 miles (166,666 km) unless the vehicle uses a full synthetic and has a built in oil cleaning system (not just a filter).

WHAT is the big effing deal? If one lays out 30 large for a car, WHY BITCH AND MOAN about a few dollars spent on every 5000 mile oil changes?

Europeans also don't fight their own battles, relying on the U.S. to do it for them.

Oil changes are realy dependant on how you drive and what you use. Short trip 5 min winter driving can mean 3000 or less for a change. Even with synthetic in summer on highway at 5000 oil is due for a change.

FULLY agree. You can't change your oil too often.

I am know in the US in order to keep your Warranty valid, you must change your oil every 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. This of course ensures very little warranty costs to Toyota regarding Warranty Repairs on the engine. Plus you can fully expect to see your Toyota hit

Oil and filter cost is so low compared to the longevity your Toyota motor will give, that its a non-event. For less than $20 every 3000 miles, its cheap insurance.
