Plugs

I just got a set of the bosch platinum 4. They protrude into the cilinder apx 1/8" less then NGK stock. From what ive read the further the protrusion the more advanced the timing will be . As Bosch protrude in less wouldnt advancing the timing 1 degree more than stock be in order. As advanced timing to the optimal increases efficiency- power and heat. Wouldnt this return timing to stock. My old plugs were fine 20000m but the car idles alot better and has more power with Bosch .

Have not heard good things about Bosch plugs in Toyota. Frequent reports of misfiring and poor performance, so be on the lookout for any changes that may develop. I'd be sticking with stock plugs - ND or NGK, known for excellent results and longevity. If your secondary (high voltage) ignition system is operating correctly, you should be getting the same spark regardless of plug type. Four groud terminals just give the spark alternate routes - it still only fires at one point. Again, I'd be sticking with factory stock ignition components - cap, rotor, wires and plugs. ps.: according to my factory manual, the little rubber gasket under the distributor cap is a "non-reusable part" To answer your question - I'd leave the timing stock also.

I put Bosch Platinum Plus 4's in at 100k miles and they have worked great. I'm not 192k with no driveability or firing issues. I did not adjust the timing either.

I second Daniel's observations. The one time (about 6 years ago) I trialed a set of Bosch+4 Platinums resulted in excessive firing voltages at idle (I have an oscilloscope) and some misfiring during warm up by the time 15k miles accumulated on them. The problem was the electrode eroded down into the porcelain ... something you cannot adjust for with these plugs. What a marketing gimmick.

Sorry, I meant I'm *now* at 192k...
