city driving today...15-20 mph in downtown Denver. i start to hear aclunking noise that i first thought was coming from a bus. the bus turnsand when i approach a stop light i realize it's my engine. i roll down thewindow and hear that the clunking is more like a grinding sort of clunk.the light turns green, i hit the gas and my car dies. it won't start, theengine starts to smoke on the right side (when looking from the driver seat)and what i think was coolant (green substance) starts pouring out of thefront center of the car. it's labor day, i know nothing about cars (maybebecause i've always driven camrys), but i had it towed...who knows whathappened?98 4cyl. auto with 84,000 miles.i've had every 15k checkup done at toyota and last time put $2000 into itfor 4 leaks in the transmission and a new wheel bearing. i never let theoil go over 3,000 before getting a change. i did the timing belt and allthat expensive shit just before it hit 60,000 miles. i do lots of highwaydriving and i treat it like an infant. i've never driven anything but acamry and their reliability is always above expectations, until now.this is why my camry sucks.

Wrong again Ransley. From a run of water pumps built in 1999, you don't know squat about what to buy today. Pumps are assembled from sourced parts ... and those parts have numerous sources. Duh.

The last Toyota (Aisin made) pump I saw said "Manufactured in Japan, Assembled in Mexico".

Our shop saw a lot of 1999 KY built Camrys' with low mileage water pump failure too.

The same pump probably fits a range of years so '99 will not be distinguished.

if you call that reliable? spend $2,000 for 4 leaks and a wheel bearing? Most people who complain about GM cars don't put $200 in maintaining their cars and rarely change the oil. You import drivers are scammed.
