1995 4Runner - New Headunit - Pwr Antenna Prob

Hi All, I have a 1995 4Runner and have just replaced the Radio Head Unit with an aftermarket Sony to add XM. All is well with one exception...They wired it so that the Power Antenna is up ALL the time. I can't stand this, so I've pulled everything apart and I have located 2 seperate leads according to the wiring diagram, one for Pwr Antenna, the other for Amp. However, the Amp and Antenna are tied together in the molex connector that connects to the factory wiring, and only 1 lead is used back to the new Head Unit, which is currently connected to the Amp Circuit. My question is this, can these two be seperated and still have the amp fully powered at all times and the antenna only rise when the tuner is selected? I did a quick test and rotated the amp to the Ant wire on the Head Unit and the amp was only active when the tuner was on and the antenna went up. When I switched to another mode the antenna went down and the amp off. Is my thoughts correct here that if I run seperate runs to each that I'll keep the amp on and get my antenna only when necessary?

Thanks in advance for any replies...

Spent heaps of time sorting that one out. Unless you have a head unit that powers down the antenna feed (getting rare these days) you will have to be stuck with the aerial up when the head units on. Im curious what you ended up doing with your rear speakers as well, seeing as these speakers are usually self amped from the factory head unit. Personally I bypassed the self amplification and rewired the speakers directly to the new head unit. My antenna will only go up when head unit is on and down when off. Yes mines connected via the molex plug as well (well it was till I soldered it properly). From memory some Pioneer head units power up the arial only when the tuner is on and off when the CD/tape/stacker selected. While you have the head unit out try and see if you get power on the antenna output (Usually blue with no white stripe) only when the tuners on.

I cant see how the antenna works without the amp as seems to have some links further into loom. I tryed heaps of variations to no avail.

Scotty and all, Here's an update...So my hunch turned out correct...My Sony HU does properly send signals on both, so I brought down the wiring for the PA from the HU and into the Molex, first I removed the jumper and then installed the new wire into the appropriate pin-out and voila! I had to swap one of the pins so the right signal was fed to the appropriate unit. It was installed at Circuit City and their answer was, that's how it is, sorry, which is BS! I simply bought another molex set, yes I know it's

16bucks, but I now have spare wiring and connectors. What I did was simply take an extra blue lead from the "new" connector set that I bought and moved it to the current installation. The shop manager has no issues with me doing this and my warranty is not void, which is good. Frankly they don't keep track of this crap anyway so even if he did give me a bad time he'd never remember me anyway in the future. Oh and Scotty, I decided to keep the rear-amp engaged and it's working perfect.
