I have an 05 tundra that when you are in 4 hi the trucks acts normal except when you are making hard turns and it is almost like putting the brake on. And when turning hard when pulling off it is like 2 wheels want to slip and 2 want to lock. Is it a antislip issue, or stability control??? or does it just need driven in 4wd for awhile to lube stuff up?


Want to know more about it before I rattle the dealers cage about it.



Also Where is the auto trans dip stick? Or how do I check it

1) You must not drive in 4wd on any surface with good traction. The front vs. rear tires must slip when you turn, and this is not allowed for mechanically. The slippage happens on the loose surface...snow, mud, whatever. The vehicles that allow full-time 4wd have a center differential or some other device that allows this difference in axle speeds when turning. 2) No dipstick. The transmission has a filling & level check plug on the side. Anyway, if you don't have a red puddle where you park and don't have oil slung on the underside of the truck, the fluid is likely inside the transmission.

You are absolutely ruining your machinery by doing that. Your Tundra is a

4wd, not Awd (all wheel drive). See, in a 4wd system, the front axle and the rear axle have to spin at the same speed, as they are mechanically locked by the drive shaft & transfer case. When you drive on pavement in 4wd and turn the wheel, the rear axle will follow a shorter track than the front, and will want to spin slower. Since that can't happen, and since the wheels cannot easily slip like when they are in mud or dirt, there is enormous strain put on the drive line until something breaks or the tires are able to break traction to keep up. Awd allows pavement driving by putting a differential between the rear and the front to let the axles spin independently of each other. So anyway, don't ever use 4wd on pavement.

It's pretty simple.

Take a bicycle and turn the front wheel, say 30 degrees to the right or left.. Push the bike straight ahead and you'll notice had difficult it is.

Your Tundra's rear wheels always turn in line with the truck's body while the front wheels during steering ( turning at the same speed as the rear wheels), but in a different direction during steering. This means the rear wheels want the truck to go straight ahead while the front wheels, upon steering, want to go in the direction the wheels are turned. This happens on hard, dry surfaces but most likely won't happen on slippery surfaces, mud, dirt, snow, etc.. Do yourself a favor and restrict your 4 wheeling to slippery surfaces as that's what

4WD is designed to deal with.
